Centenary University was founded in 1867. It is a coeducational, 4-year career oriented liberal arts college offering both undergraduate and graduate education to a diverse student body. With an enrollment of over 2500, Centenary has true international character with students coming from many different regions of the world. Located in suburban Hackettstown, NJ, Centenary is one hour west of New York City and less than two hours from Philadelphia. The 42 acres campus is known for its safe and secure environment.

Student Demographics

1,250 full time students; 115 part time. Graduate and Adult: 1,149; Male – female ratio; 36:64. Undergraduate and graduate students come from an average of 22 states and an average of 10 foreign countries.

ESL Program and Support Services

Centenary University’s School of International Programs provides an excellent ESL Program that is based on the needs of the individual student. All non native English speaking international students are individually evaluated to identify specific needs, and take only the ESL courses that are necessary. All ESL courses are for credit (4 credits per course) and count towards degree completion. ESL tutoring is provided at no additional cost throughout a student’s time at Centenary. The ESL Program is designed to support all international students by providing high-quality ESL instruction in speaking, listening, reading, and writing from the low intermediate to the advanced level.

Student Housing Options

Centenary University has space in its eight residence halls for over 700 students. Our residence halls range from a 48 to 130 bed capacity. All residence halls are designed as smoke-free buildings. Each hall has its own unique features – from traditional double student rooms with community bathrooms, to single rooms in traditional halls, to apartment style with single bedrooms.

Admission Requirements for First Year Students

Completed application (Either Common Application or Centenary University Application), High School official transcript, TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE test scores, copy of passport, official bank documentation of financial support

Student Activities and Campus Life

The student run International Student Organization(ISO) schedules trips and events including big city entertainment and professional sports events as well as shopping and market trips to local markets. Centenary’s International Friendship Program is an American family style program specifically designed to provide our students with the “American Experience”. Many families invite their students over for holiday dinners and other activities throughout the year.
