Kean University is an interactive metropolitan institution of higher learning primarily serving students from the communities of New Jersey and its neighboring states. Founded in 1855, Kean University has grown to become one of New Jersey’s largest institutions of higher learning. In 1958, Kean moved from Newark to Union and currently occupies over 150 acres in Union and Hillside Townships. Kean was granted University status on September 26, 1997. Student Housing Options

Freshman Application for admission

  • $75 application fee
  • If enrolled in a high school in the United States, an official high school transcripts showing completion of diploma is required, as well as SAT/ACT test scores
  • Evaluation of foreign high school transcripts from an organization affiliated with the National Association of Credit Evaluation Services (NACES) that shows US high school diploma equivalency. For a listing of NACES member organizations, please visitwww.naces.org/members.htm
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) official test scores for any applicant who has studied in a country where English is not the native language. Please note that the TOEFL/IELTS requirement is only waived if you are a native English speaker or have completed a college-level English Composition course in the U.S. with a grade of “C” or better.
    • TOEFL Minimum Score: Internet based: 80; Computer based: 213; Paper based: 550
    • IELTS Minimum Score: 6.0
  • $175 tuition deposit upon admission which will be applied towards tuition

Student Activities and Campus Life

With more than 140 honor societies and cultural and student organizations, as well as 30 fraternities and sororities, Kean University’s campus life offers students in every discipline many ways to enrich their college experience.
The centerpiece of Kean’s student life is the University Center, home to numerous clubs and organizations, a food court- style cafeteria, the Cougar’s Den, Starbucks Café, an ice cream stand and the Marketplace, a convenience store offering snacks, soft drinks and household sundries. The University Center also houses the Barnes and Noble campus bookstore and serves as a venue for many theatrical productions, current feature movie, lunchtime lectures, billiard tables and video games. The Center houses an internet-wired, state-of- the- art computer lab ideal for research and writing.
